Course Details

Distance: 4.4miles
Average Gradient: 3.2%

Course Description:
The course starts at the post box near the junctions of Buxton Road (Long Hill), Meverill Road, Vaughan Road and Manor Road.

The course heads up Long Hill through the trees finally coming out of the trees just before the Shady Oak pub in Fernilee, no stopping for refreshments!!! Where after the pub the climb increases in gradient. The higher gradient continues past half way and up on to the most exposed part of the course a long straight.

Following the long straight there is a small descent followed by a left hand bend which, depending on the wind direction, brings some welcome rest from the wind. From here the road starts to steepen in gradient again through the trees and on to the start of the final run in to the finish.

(the finish is at the car)

From here the road continues round to the left. Riders are asked to continue over the top of the climb to the first layby where a van will be situated. Your extra clothing will be available here for your descent back down towards Whaley Bridge.

Buxton Cycling Club are extremely proud to be hosting this years National Hill Climb Championships on the 30th October 2011.

While Long Hill is a different type of climb to the recent shorter steeper climbs used for the National Championships, it won't be lacking in excitement or a deserving winner.

Last years Open Hill Climb winner Tejvan Pettinger has this to say about Long Hill. Tejavns Blog (with some cracking pictures)
