Which chain for an old 5-speed block?

My friend with the wobbly 27" rear wheel looks in need of a new chain, are the latest chains too narrow? or what should I be looking for?

I find that a 7/8 speed seems to work fine, thats what i use on repairs anyway. Sam.
A clean bike is a happy bike!!
